If you have some spare time these days, and you want to visit a museum, I recommend you choose the Hammer Museum. If you are interested in Modern art, you can find some good exhibitions there. Otherwise, if you’re more a classic-collections fan, you’ll probably admire some Renoir, Lautrec, Goya or Van Gogh works there as well. I found this experience very positive. The Hammer doesn’t request from you practically anything to get in. You just have to show your student ID, and this is in fact a good start because most of the museums are not affordable for everyone. In conclusion, I enjoyed the visit, even if I didn’t understand certain works or paintings. However, I consider that sometimes you need to look and stare more accurately to find the reason why the artist needs to express himself in that way. Therefore, if you don’t want to waste your time, I expect you to go with a guide or a handbook where you can find some clues to discover and dive into this kind of art. - Rob
The Hammer Museum is located on Wilshire Boulevard and Westwood Avenue. It’s a museum of classic as well as contemporary arts, which exhibits the Armand Hammer Permanent Collection as well as temporary showing of various artists. With a valid student ID, there is free admission. Certainly a highlight of the museum is original paintings from artists such as Van Gogh, Gaugin, Degas and Cezanne. Just standing in front of such renowned paintings makes it a worthwhile trip. On the other hand, I wasn’t impressed by the temporary exhibitions; Abstract art that I can’t appreciate or maybe I just don’t understand at this point. But badly drawn geometrical figures is not what I recommend people see. This trip was great, and the permanent collection is impressive, but since art itself is very subjective, I can only recommend you take a trip to the museum and see the different exhibitions for yourself. - Damian
Today I want to tell you about my school trip to the Hammer Museum. Two days ago my class went to the Hammer Museum. Initially, my teacher needed to gather students at school for a departure together. Subsequently, we had breakfast at Peet’s, which is one block from the museum. The coffee we had made me wake up and feel fresh. My class had a good time and was energetic there. Next, we got in the museum and took some photos together walking around the museum and looking at a lot of galleries, which were sparkling. Many things in the museum are supposed to be the constructions and designs from different ideas of the drawer. For me, I was tender on the picture that described nature, which had a king that lived in a house. Eventually, the trip was elating and I felt warm hearted. I recommend you don’t miss the Hammer Museum. - Marady
Enjoying the potluck are Mohit from India, SIna Lo from Korea, Marady from Cambodia, teacher Barbara, Andrea de Souza from Brazil and Roberto Bautista from Spain.

We went the Hammer Museum with my school’s fellow students a couple of days ago. The school trip was very exciting and funny. Before we entered the museum, we drank a cup of coffee at Peet’s CafĂ©. We talked to each other with good coffee smell. A man that sat next to us started to talk to us. “Where are your countries?” and “What is today’s event?” so we had conversation with a native speaker.
ReplyDeleteThe Hammer Museum has five sections, but I enjoyed the last section that has Armand Hammer’s painting collections. In fact, they have Renoir, Van Gogh and some French fancy and historic paintings. I really liked looking at them.
If you get a chance to go on a school trip, I recommend you participate in it. I’m sure that you will have a great time.
